About

The Viennese dialect is the essence of the city: Vienna’s soul speaking her own language, marked by metaphorical hyperbole and understatement. An abstract concept becomes an image, which is in turn abstracted.
Narrative is replaced by the illustrative qualities of words, allowing the mind’s eye to take over. This is language whose words don’t stop at allegory; they extend to offering actual advise on conduct, which can be – literally – both absurd and grotesque.
The ambiguous semantics of Viennese contain more than just irony. Viennese feeds on despair, and is obsessed with impending doom: an abyss, in which the Viennese are quite at home.
